Everyone believes that they are good communicators. The reality is however,
that we often assume that we have successfully communicated our information,
without taking the time to check that it was understood.


Successful teams often pride the ease at which information is shared. This course aims to highlight some of the key reasons why poor communication technique can reduce a teams performance.


1. Basic Communication Skills.
Most people believe that communication is about knowing how to speak a language fluently. This module aims to make people aware that speaking is just one element that can be used to get specific responses of communication and that active listening and observation play a vital role in the way that we understand the context of what is being said.

2. Better Questions, Better Answers.
It can be very hard to get a response out of another person.
Even more difficult is getting an accurate understanding of
another persons’ opinion. This module looks at techniques
of soliciting discussions. We look at how to form structured
questions and question strategies.

3. Communications Aids and how to use them.
Flip charts and death by Powerpoint.....When is a computer
generated presentation the most effective tool to use and
at what point will it cause insomnia. This module aims to
show how important it is to get the audience involved with
what is being shown or demonstrated.

4. Conflict Management
Conflicts big or small, reduce productivity and creativity of the whole team. This module will explore how to read the signs of an impending conflict, then how to diffuse an argument before it gets out of control.

5. Managing Meetings
We look at the problems and solutions to keeping the focus of the team on the agenda. How
management unruly team members and how to deal with a disruptive team member.

6. Overcoming Pre-conceptions
We all instantly make assumptions about people we meet as soon as we meet them. This module looks at cultural issues to help understand another persons’ perspective.

7. Public Speaking.
Many people are not comfortable about standing up in front of a crowd and speaking openly. There are skills that can be learned to enable us to engage the audience and get them on our ‘side’. There are also ways to gauge how an audience is receiving what we are saying.

8. Negotiation Skills
Negotiating is about understanding perspectives and motivations. This module uses skills from several other modules, combined to form the skill of effective negotiation.
